Things to Do

624-acre Arlington National Cemetery is the county’s most famous landmark, interring many of those who have fought for their country from the Civil War onward. The Pentagon is located beside the Cemetery. While this iconic hub of United States intelligence agencies is famed for its secrecy, guided tours are available of its facilities. Other famous Arlington sites include the Marine Corps War Memorial depicting the raising of the flag at Iwo Jima. Three-acre Gateway Park in Rosslyn is a green space with views of the D.C. skyline and annual events including an outdoor film festival and free Jazz Fest. Located in the Potomac between Arlington and D.C., Theodore Roosevelt Island has 88.5 acres of verdant greenery. Washington Golf & Country Club’s amenities include a 6,000-yard sloping course designed by Donald Ross and William Flynn.
